'Jimmy Pike, who died in 2002, married his clinical psychologist, writer Pat Lowe who fell in love with him during the many times he had been in prison. They lived together in the searing heat and primitive conditions of the Australian desert. Here he developed his unpretentious, colourful style reminiscent of Keith Haring who visited Australia in 1984. The paintings as well as being touched by a curious love story have a unique honesty and charm.'
