Singing of Mount Abora: Fons Van Laar
Singing of Mount Abora is the first UK solo exhibition by Dutch painter and ceramicist, Fons Van Laar. Presenting a cross-section of the artist’s distinctive oeuvre between 2004 - 2025 - from ceramic vases and miniature sculptures to glazed plates and oil paintings on panel - the installationcelebrates the rich and imaginative themes that have shaped his artistic vision.
Throughout his career, life-giving flora - the sunflowers, purple dahlias, fresh plums and glossy apples that grow in his allotment in Amsterdam - have served as central imagery.
In both his suggestively playful ceramics and his allusive paintings, the artist explores the robust beauty of natural forms, whilst heightening the depiction of his subject with anachronistic, dreamlike threads of stylistic influence.
