Segment of a totem pole
Unknown First Nations craftsman
Typically made from large trees by Indigenous tribes in the northmost regions of the Americas, this segment of a totem pole was sourced from another museum which agrees with MOFO that sometimes segmentation is natural and needed in order to show off culture. It is unknown where the rest of the pole is, but that doesn’t matter because what matters is that the Western audience gets its fill of other cultures through an exotified lens.
