Leftover cup from a volcanic explosion
Artifact from Pompeii
This cup is a remnant from the volcanic explosion at Pompeii. Note how the lava has cooled off and hardened on the base of the vessel. From examination, it seems like a snail had caught itself on the cup in the midst of the explosion and had become permanently attached to the piece overall.
