Fossilized ice cream
Artifact from Salt Lake region
This fossilized ice cream was most likely from a large ‘Kitchen Sink’ ice cream from San Francisco Creamery brought over to the Salt Lake region. The ice cream was most likely dropped en route, as it did for patrons at the Walnut Creek location in 2013, before being dissolved, leaving behind a shell-shaped hole in the soft sediment below it. Water rich in minerals then filled the space, and crystals formed, creating a fossil in the shape of the original scoop of strawberry rum raisin we see here today.
