Autumn Light: Group Show, NYC
The Rebecca Hossack Art Gallery on Mott Street presents a new exhibition for the fall which celebrates texture and pattern.
Spanish artists Mersuka Dopazo and Teresa Calderón will be represented by their large-scale collages, which bring together batik fabrics and natural papers with pigments and resin. Also utilising resin, New Zealander Rob Tucker's still life paintings and boat sculpture will be on show, whose painterly finish contrast texture and tone as much as they explore composition and form.
The exhibition will also include draughtsman Laura Jordan's highly-detailed cityscapes, which are hand-finished with collage, watercolour and glitter. Also working on an intricate scale, Hepzibah Swinford's oil paintings celebrate the endless variety of floral form and colour, textiles, patterns and design.
In conjunction with his recent solo exhibition at the Charlotte Street gallery in London, Ross Bonfanti's concrete and soft toy sculpture introduce another contrasting texture, the rawness of which complements the richly-layered paintings of Scottish artist Alasdair Wallace and the collage winter scenes of Dione Verulam, crafted from antique book-binding papers and old lithographs. Katherine Virgils' gold leaf and pigment yogi miniatures will also join the display.
