The Rebecca Hossack Art Gallery continues its Conversaziones series with a talk by renowned soprano Alison Buchanan of Pegasus Opera, the only opera compay in the United Kingdom dedicated to working with singers, composers, and musicians from African and Asian backgrounds.
We exist to create opportunities for composers, musicians, and singers of African and Asian heritage.
Established in South London by Lloyd Newton, Pegasus is a professional opera company with a family of widespread international artists, participants, and supporters. Aimed at promoting the talents of emerging artists of African and Asian heritage, they produce high- quality performances that celebrate the music of rich African, Asian, and Caribbean diasporas whilst weaving into the fabric of the British performing arts, and using creativity to challenge and advocate for positive change.
In April, Pegasus Opera will participate in a captivating double bill performance with Hagemann Rosenthal Associates at the Royal Academy of Music, that will feature the gripping female-driven stories of Roman Fever by Philip Hagemann, and The Human Voice (La Voix Humaine) by Francis Poulenc. In June, they will embark upon a national tour aimed at celebrating the vibrant heritage and contributions of the Windrush generation through a series of exhibitions, performances, and educational initiatives.
The evening will conclude with a performance by Alison and Ghanaian mezzo-soprano Josephine Amankwah.
