Overview

Jason Shulman is a London-based artist, who challenges the conventional boundaries of media, time, space and matter. His practice embraces photography, drawing, printmaking and sculpture. His works evoke a heightened experience of sensation, of memory, of loss.

He has created illusory martini glasses from rotating blades of mirror, ‘dandelions’ from radiating points of light, and vortices of swirling ‘water’ from fine wire-mesh.

In his acclaimed ‘Film Series’ he uses a single photographic exposure to capture the entirety of a feature-film, building an aura-like image from the accumulated palimpsest of light.

His 2024 exhibition – Immerse – (hailed as one of the top ‘11 London Exhibitions’ of the year) interrogated the experience of swimming through water – in a series of prints, drawings, multi-media pictures and sculptural pieces.

Shulman is an artist of extraordinary power and originality. His work challenges our perceptions, and invites us to explore new pathways of knowledge.

He has exhibited at Photo London, Somerset House, London, the Third Moscow Biennale, Garage Museum of Contemporary Art Moscow, the Museum of Old and New Art (MONA), Hobart, Australia, The Wand, Berlin.
