Overview

Laurence Jones is a London-based British artist who plays with ideas of authenticity and memory. His paintings of half-familiar American modernist buildings and illuminated swimming pools, set in stark terrains under darkening skies, carry a special emotive force.

As Jones explains: ‘These are scenes that deal with the nature of the Post-Modern gaze…. the paintings incorporate elements of both fiction and reality, and are brought to fruition through a varied means of production. I draw from a pool of collected images that are then digitally edited, to reach a starting point for a process-based practice.’

Jones’ work is technically dazzling. The artist challenges himself  - in his compositions – not least with the introduction of multiple light-sources. To achieve his effects, he employs the finest materials. And in his approach he aims for an almost photographic realism.

Jones studied Fine Art at Kingston University, London. He has exhibited extensively in the US and Europe.
